The decision to go to Zofingen depended on the fact that i’ve friends at the switzerland border and one of them is a big “Reamonn” fan, she wanted to go to the festival as well, and this was a good chance to meet her again. I drove by car the 650 km on Friday afternoon and at Saturday morning, after having breakfast with my friends we goes to Zofingen, another 150km drive. The weather was cold and cloudy but we’d prepared ourself with warm and dry clothes. When we arrived at the venue the sun said “Hello” and it became warmer, but in the afternoon, the sun said “good bye” and the rain said “Hello”. So at last we stood in the cold and in a heavy rain, but that wasn’t important, we had fun at all!
After a very good show with “Reamonn” the Simple Minds fans got their places in the front row and i found a place in the middle of the front row - perfect. There, in the front row we were a little bit covered for the rain because of the roof from the stage, but the rain became harder and harder and at the end, the roof could protect us no longer. All the same, we had nevertheless a lot of fun!
Jim Kerr was sorry for the rain, and it seemed that he wanted to chase away the rain with his singing, his energy and with his dancing. He was enthusiastic like at the beginning of his career! The next day the local press reviewed: “The rock veteran scrambled about on the stage like a young roe deer” !!!!
I think because of the heavy rain the Simple Minds cut one song from the setlist, after the show i got the setlist from Fred and “Someone...” was announced but not played. All the same, it was a marvellous show full of fun and enthusiastic from the band and the crowd. i think 12,000 happy people went home with a smile at their faces! If you would ask me, whether i’ll do it again in the same way, with all the rain, coldness and mud, i have to say YES, without a second to think about!
