My decision to go to Weert came very late. I prefered to go to Liverpool at the Pops again, but it was on Monday and my boss from work said NO for another free day from work, so i decided to go at Weert the Saturday before Liverpool. Weert is near the border between the Netherlands and Germany and only a 2,5 hour drive from my home. It was easy to go there and it was a very warm and sunny day.
When i arrived at the festival i met Leo, Erwin and their girlfriends, so we hang around together the whole afternoon and had lots of fun.
Late at night the Simple Minds enters the stage and i met some others crazy followers, and some i met after the show.
Weert is a big fesival in the netherlands with many bands during 3 days, but i was there only for the Simple Minds - and it worth for - of course!
The Band was in a very good mood, this day in the afternoon they’d played another show in another country. They were at Werchter as well! But we’re talking about the Simple Minds! They can do two gig at one day in two countries without any problems. And they did it! Bel from Belgium was at the both gigs and she told me after the show that Weert was much better than Werchter, because the band was in a better mood!!!!
Yes, it was a great show. They played a 13-song-set and for a two-gig-day i think that were many!
And it was a “big party” ! Jim, Eddie and Mel were smiling and joking to the crowd and it seemed for me that they really have fun and loved to be there to play!
And there was a short try from the crowd to celebrate Jim’s birthday, but he didn’t want to celebrate his birthday, he wanted to rock the audience!!! - Good choice in my opinion - i was there to 'be rocked'! :-)
