Manchester 27th November 2008
More than two years after the last Simple Minds show in Edingburgh I traveled again to see them live at their 30 years celebrate tour in the UK. The first gig was in Manchester and there was a meet-up before the show with all the members from the “sosimplemindes.com”-community. Many people, friends and new faces were there and it was a big “Hello” all the time. Many hugs and kisses all around - i love it, all these peoples are always very friendly, and for me it seem, every time, that we all are a very very big family!!! For that short tour the Simple Minds played big venues and the audience had always seated places. Not my cup of coffee, but who ask me? I had always a seat very far far away from the stage, but a Simple Minds show is a Simple Minds show and it’s always brilliant, equal where you get your place.
Right in the beginning of the show every one in the venue stood up and danced and jumped to the music, so I did as well - for sure. I enjoyed every single second of the show. It felt as I'd be home again after a long trip, finally. I have this feeling every time at a Simple Minds concert, and it is also the reason for it, why I travel over and over again to see the Simple Minds at their gigs!!!
They started with a very short and harmless Intro, that only a few people in the crowd noted as a Intro and then the played an energetic “Waterfront” that blew off all skeptics! What a beginning for a celebration show of 30th years touring around the world - brilliant! A peak in the show was, as Jim introduced Mel for singing “The Chelsea Girl” - they sang the song in a very quiet and soulful duet - marvellous! Then they played, as they had promised, the entire album “New Gold Dream” and it was brilliant! Simple Minds as it’s best!
