In the morning in Düsseldorf, after leaving my hotel I had a 'meeting of the third sort”. While i drove through Düsseldorf to search for the motorway, i saw the Simple Minds bus in front of me. I thought, yeah, that would be easy, i would follow the bus and got easy to the motorway. But that was wrong. A few minutes later i was really in downtown Düsseldorf, standing in front of a big first class hotel! Shit. While i’m searching the map for the way out of Düsseldorf i saw Eddie Duffy steped into the bus. Ok. Why not. I had a pack of Jelly bears in my car and decided to give them to the Minds for their journey. So i got out off my car and went to the bus, to Steve, the bus driver, to gave him the jelly bears. But he shouted out for Eddie and said i’ve to wait because Jim and Charlie will arrive in a few minutes. I didn’t want to wait, but they were to fast and arrived really only one minute later. OK. Shit happened, so i gave the Jelly bears to Jim, Charlie and Eddie (who was still waiting). It was a little bit strange, met up the band in the morning at the hotel, but they where nice as always and we all wished us a good ride to Mainz. And so the next driving hours started. And hey, it was a terrible trip, because of much snow! I needed more than 7 hours for a 250 km trip!!!!! I stood more than two hours in the destination from the motorway. A big Car had an accident in the snow and there was no way to pass by. Then i stood more than one hour at a crossroad nowhere in Mainz, waiting that the streets would be ok for the drive. At last i was in my hotel at 6:20 pm and at the venue at 7:10 pm. And i got a place in the third row, but on the very left site. Because at this time the venue wasn’t full of people. All the other had the same problem that i had. At last, the Minds jumped up on stage at 9:15 pm, half an hour later than usual. But the show was perfect as usual. The Minds didn’t showed the crowd, that they had a terrible journey as well, and that they maybe felt tired. They played a perfect gig and put a new/old song at their list. They played “Hypnotised” (i love that song) and not as only for this song, the journey through the snow was it worth!
But the awful things should not ends. In Mainz it was forbidden to made photos. I do not know, why. I think it was not for a wish of the Minds them self, but i also know that it is not normal for the venue. I was there for a few times at other concerts and it was never a problem to make photos. But i was calm and quiet because of my recording. And nobody from the securities realised my microphone, so the recording was ok. So there is only one picture. It is “Born” the support band.
