The concert in Mainz was part of a big festival for free with many bands included. The doors opend at 2 pm, but i decided to be there only for the Simple Minds show because it was a rainy day.
I arrived in Mainz at 6:30 pm and checked in to the hotel and called up Barbara. She was there with a girlfriend, Andreas was missing that day, he had some other things to do. I went to the venue and met Barbara and her friend Arie. It was 7 pm or 7:30 pm maybe. So we had time for something to eat, having a beer and searched for a better place near to the stage. The showtime for Simple Minds was announced at 9 pm but they went onstage at 9:15 pm and it was still raining :-( But the rain wasn't a important thing this evening, i had a raincoat! :-) Barbara, Arie and me got a place in the middle of the third row and had a good time. The set from the Minds was short, very short. Maybe because of the rain, maybe because they wasn’t the “main act” (Katie Melua was the last act), maybe they wanted to save their energy for the very last show in Edinburgh. But they played a very good show, fulfilled with energy and enthusiasm! And Jim jumped and danced a lot onstage and often he did it in the rain! Sometimes he looked into the crowd with an apologetic look, completely thus as he would be responsible for the rain. Except from the rain and the short set it was really a very good show and it could be that the Simple Minds got a few new fans, because there were many people around. And some of them had seen the Simple Minds for the very first time, and for me it seemed they liked the show a lot!
After the concert from the Simple Minds we went to the backstage entrance because i had the very last “Jelly bears” for the crew. We saw Jim Kerr leaving the venue and i gave the Jelly bears to the german tour manager. After that we found a pub and we had another beer together and talked about the show. It was another nice day/night with very good music, a very good concert and a good time with friends!
