Glasgow 04.12.08
Glasgow was my last gig for this 30 years celebrating tour and it was an other great experience! I arrived in Glasgow on Wednesday evening, so there was plenty of time at Thursday morning to walked through the city of Glagow and visited the SECC. For this gig was an other meet-up with the members of the sosimpleminded.com community planned, but i was wrong with the meeting place and I missed the meet-up. :-( But when I wanted to leave the hotel to go to the SECC for the Showtime, I met Shirl, Lore and the whole bunch in front of the hotel. They were waiting for a taxi and they have a seat for me to go with them - Thank you! We arrived at the venue and every one goes it own way because of the different seats. My place was, as usual for this tour, very very far from the stage, but I didn’t care about that. I was there for celebrating the 30 years show with the Simple Minds in their hometown, and so I did that!!! For their hometown-gig the Simple Minds changed the setlist. They played “I Travel” instead of “Speed your love to me” and they changed “Hypnotised” with “Ghostdancing-Gloria”. In the encores they played “Home” instead of “She’s a river”. Almost a perfect set to celebrate the 30 year anniversary, ok, not THE perfect set, they could changed a few songs, but there is not a perfect set, that appreciate to every one in the crowd. For me it was close to be perfect. I loved the way they played “Waterfront”, so many energy, a blast! Followed by “I Travel” - a Hymn to all of the fans in the crowd, Simple Minds knows, that their fans are traveling around the globe to see a Simple Minds show, and here in Glasgow, Jim said “Thank You” to every one in the crowd who had traveled around over the last thirty years! Also the lighting during this tour was incredible. Not as big as other bands need, but the lights were like an other, a sixth member of the band. It fited perfect to the songs! But with all this beautiful things at the show there was one thing that wasn’t that good. The Simple Minds played “Home” as a honor to Glasgow and their fans, but unfortunately, Jim lost the right order of the lyrics, he sung a very different version of “Home”, but he has always the ability,to do it without to let the crowd notice his false. Almost, without the few die-hard fans around... ;.)
After the Simple Minds gig there was an other gig to go for. The Aftershow-gig with Fourgoodmen, Shirl and the bunch caught a Taxi and so we were very quick at the next venue for an other party. It was very nice, many of the community members were there as well and the Fourgoodmen played many Simple Minds songs. But I didn’t remain a long time, because my flight back home the next day shouted out loud.
So this small tour comes at the end.. It was again a great experience and at this point to all which I met on this short tour a big kiss and a hearty hug. We see ourself in June or July in 2009! Take care and don’t give up your love to the great live music with Simple Minds! - See you!
