The third open air show was in a real summertime! It was sunny and hot in Gelsenkirchen. This concert was part in addition with the Fifa World Cup and was held in the old traditional stadium of the German football club ‘Schalke 04’! It was a special atmosphere in the stadium and the Simple Minds were in a very good mood. The day before they played a few songs at the opening party for the Fifa World Cup in Berlin and you know that the Simple Minds are addicted in football! And in this case is has to be a big honor for them to play in Berlin. And the show in Gelsenkirchen was also a part of the big world cup party in Germany!
In the beginning of the show Jim shouted “Schalke” “Schalke” “Schlake” like it was the beginning of a football match and not a rock concert. I think, he and the band were thrilled with the World Cup!
The set was shorter than in Bonn and Hamburg, but they played it more enthusiastic than the other ones! Everyone could see and feel that the Minds really loved to play there in Gelsenkirchen and it seemed they enjoyed it very much! It was a big party for all, for the band and for the crowd!!!

And for me by myself there was another special thing before the show starts, because i got the chance for a very small “Meet & Greet” with Jim Kerr. It was part of a competition. In between the changeover from the support act “Born” to the Simple Minds we (only four people) went backstage to say “Hello” to Jim and to make a photo with him. Jim Kerr was nice and friendly as usual to his “fans”. It seemed he was a little bit tired, maybe because of the flight from Berlin to Düsseldorf, because the flight had a big delay, but he let us not feel that we maybe disturbed him.
As he noticed me, he said a little bit amazed: “Ah, you’ve won?! Nice!”
Then we did the photos and this it was!
We went back to the crowd to enjoy the show! - And hey, we really did!!!!
And also the tiredness of Jim Kerr was like 'blown off'!
