The Show in Braunschweig was something special for me. I know the singer from the support band very well and he offered me a backstage pass for the show! This was very nice and I was very happy - one less ticket to pay for! :-) I was at the venue around 5.30 pm and many familiar faces were there as well. Time to say “Hello” to Tina, Sandra, Merve, Lore, Regina and Aggie. But I hadn’t my ticket at that moment and went to the box office. At last I really got these backstage pass after the doors were opened but my wonderful “background singerin” from ExCel, Lore, was so kind to hold a space in the front row for me. Our place was just in front of Eddie! - Thank you Lore! Ok. I had these backstage pass and so I went backstage. First at all I met Derek from the Crew and he was very surprised to see me there but I explained to him that I got the pass from the support band. Then i met Thorsten Wingenfelder, but before his own gig he’s always very nervous. Normally he’s “only” a guitar player (from the band “Fury In The Slaughterhouse”) and not the man in the “spotlight” like here in Braunschweig. So i only said Hello and thanks for the pass and left the backstage area. Around 7:30pm Thosten Wingenfelder and his band were onstage and played a very good show in front of a few thousands Simple Minds fans! And than a little bit later ... the Simple Minds entered the stage and they did a very good show as well, but in my opinion they can play better, more powerful and more enthusiastic. But there is never ever a bad Simple Minds show, of course not! Each show from the Minds is good, but sometimes the are brilliant, incredible, marvellous, to say it in one word: unique! This show in Braunschweig was very good but not brilliant. Eddie and Charlie had a lot of fun and at last Marc Taylor was smiling for a very long time during the gig (maybe he recognized his very special “Groupie” ‘Lore’ :-D )
After the show i said goodby to the other fans and went backstage again. But the Simple Minds had a special private room and the door was closed and I did not want to disturb them there. I went to a tent where i met Thorsten and other people and there we talked about the Minds, his own gig and had a few beers and much fun. When i left the venue the Minds were gone, but i found a very big poster from the show and took it as “souvenir” and said goodbye to the crew!
It was a very nice evening with lots of fun! - Thank you Thorsten (and the Simple Minds)
