After the two gigs in switzerland and the very short holiday with my friends i had to drive home very fast at saturday the 11th of March. The trip home by car needs almost 7 or more hours and my flight to Barcelona was in the morning at Sunday the 12th March. When i arrived at home, there was only time to changed the baggage with fresh clothes, and after a “Big Sleep” i drove to the airport to caught my flight. Everything went very well and i arrived in Barcelona at a sunny afternoon.
Lourdes, my best, as not to say my only friend in Spain was already there and we had a very warm welcome. Our last meeting was in Torreveija nearly two years ago. Thus it was a must to go to Barcelona to see her again and to have fun with the Minds gig!
We chose a hotel just around the corner from the venue and after having Breakfast on Sunday, we checked out the venue. At that time the crew was busy to build up the stage. The surrounding from the venue wasn’t nice and we decided to rest in a small coffee bar to chat. Maybe at three o’clock we had another look at the doors and Loudres was frightened, because there were two other followers already waiting! For Lourdes this gig was the first and only one (indoor show) this year and she wanted to be at the front row, so we waited at the closed doors from 3 pm till 8:30 pm!!!! But it was a nice waiting time. And maybe at 6 pm, when nearly 20 followers were waiting too, we went back to our hotel to change our clothes, to catch our cameras and to buy a sandwich.
Steve, the bus driver was surprised and joked with me as he recognized me to wait again in the doors! He couldn't understand me, but he said that it was nice to see a 'Die-Hard-Fan' again!
The show started without a support band nearly a quarter past nine and what should i say. From the beginning till the last sound it was a blast!!! The Simple Minds were not only in a good mood, they were enthusiastic! Jim was dancing and jumping all the time and he had a big satisfied grin in his face. He shook a lot of hands from the stage and everybody in the crowd enjoyed this show very much (in my opinion, of course!)
In Barcelona they added one more song at the setlist and played again 22 songs! This setlist really had no space for wishes (for me at this tour!). I loved every tune, sound and song from this show!
But there was one thing, that wasn’t nice for the crowd in the first rows. The barrier between stage and crowd was the highest i’ve ever seen. More than one metre and a half. I just could survey it, but Lourdes, she is a bit smaller than me, couldn't survey this fence, she had to look thru!! But she had fun as well!!!
The Barcelona show reached place two (behind Amsterdam) at my personal ‘Top five gigs’ from the current Black & White tour!
After the show we were waiting for the band and here in Bearcelona the crowd of waiting people was very big. Maybe 100 people (more or less) were waiting for the band!!! But the securities made a “passageway” for the band and so we all wait behind a barrier again. But Charlie and Jim passed our place and were nice as always and took time for a picture with Lourdes! And Jim smiled and look at Lourdes and said: “You looked like you'd enjoyed the show very much!” - and yes, she did!!!! :-)
Thank You Lourdes for the very nice days in Spain, and Thank You Simple Minds for a brilliant show again!
